Usually it is only the front section of the awning that requires cleaning. Wind the awning out 300mm and gently remove the dirt with soapy water (laundry detergent works well) and a soft brush. If there is mildew present, this can be sprayed with a 4:1 solution of water and 30 seconds or similar.
PLEASE ENSURE YOU THOROUGHLY WASH OFF ANY CHEMICALS and allow the awning fabric to dry before rolling away.
The valance can be removed by removing the screws on either side of the front rail and sliding out. When reinstalling please ensure screws fix into the rope in the fabric to hold it tight.

Hardware - wash with soapy water (no harsh detergents) and a soft broom
When dry, spray moving parts with silicone spray or CRC 5.56 type products - front rail connection, arm joints and gearbox.
If you are near the coast please spray the hardware and moving parts with WD40 to stop salt water ingress.

Motors - if you awning starts to come in for no reason, please change the batteries in both the remote and the 3D motion sensor, as this is a security feature to avoid the awning being stuck out with a flat battery.
No other maintenance should be required for motors.
If you are having trouble with your motor or need a battery, please feel free to contact us 09 570 6353 or customerservice@coolawnings.co.nz

We recommend you remove, clean and store your shade sail every year to prolong its life. Removing the sail over winter can quadruple the life of the sail. It also allows for annual cleaning and checking of the sail and seams.
To clean, once the shade sail is down, clean the underside first. Spray with a 3:1 solution of water to 30 seconds, and wash off thoroughly. High pressure washers can be used gently to clean sails. Rinse, turn over the sail and repeat.
To clean heavily soiled sails, lichen can be spot treated with 2:1 solution of water to 30 seconds and left for up to 2 hours, and gently scraped off.
